Archival and Restoration
Terra Nova also provides the service of archiving and restoration
of audio. This service is primarily transferring from one
format to another for preservation. If old “reel
to reel” tapes have not been stored properly, humidity
and other environmental factors will break down the tapes and
the content of those tapes will eventually disappear. As
a rule, the process is not difficult, however, it is time consuming. Each
project that is brought in for this type of work is totally different,
and the client should know that some tapes are past salvaging. We
also will take old phonograph records, (with proper copyright
clearances) and put them on new formats. If client
wants the tapes or records edited or mastered, that is a different
process with additional charges and would fall under Mastering
/ Editing (see 'Rate' sheet). The costs of the
DVD’s , CD’s, DATs, and cassettes are additional
to the hourly rates.
Here is a list of our transfer services:
Diagnostic Evaluation ...................................................................................
call for rates
We make a "Visual" diagnostic on the format in question at no charge. Any other diagnostic evaluations will be at regular hourly rates. That means that if the engineer puts the tape on the analog machine, the client will be charged regular hourly rate, whether there is or is not recorded material on that tape. We suggest the client schedule an attended session for the transfer if there is any doubt or question about this issue. It is a fact that there are a lot of old analog tapes out there, that cannot be identified or with no actual recording on them.

is real -time. If analog tapes are to be transferred,
it is helpful to know the following:

of time of the tape (in minutes)
- Size
of the tape (ex. 1/4 in., 1/2 in)
- IPS
/ tape speed (ex. 15, 30)
- 1/2 track or
1/4 track
- Format
to be transferred to (DAT, CD, cassette)
If phonograph records are to
be transferred, it is helpful to know the following:
- Speed (ex.
33, 45, 78 rpm)
- Total length
in minutes
- Format
to be transferred to (DAT, CD, cassettes)
**
(Rates listed above also apply to DAT, CD, and cassette
transfers)
To archive your final mastered
project on DVD data backup in TNDA files permanently.
Fee .............................................................................
$25.00 per project
We
hold on our hard drive for up to a week after you have mastered
with us. If you want this service, you
must request that we archive your project, otherwise , we
erase the program from the hard drive after
one week.
Baking Tapes ....................................................................................... $25.00
per reel
Some
tapes may shed during the transfer and need to be baked. This
shall be determined
when the client brings the tape in for evaluation and diagnostic
check. After baking is done, the
tape can be (in most cases) transferred successfully to the
new format.
Terra
Nova Digital Audio, Inc, will NOT be held
liable or responsible for tapes that do not play after the
baking process. This process is a procedure that the
client chooses, understands, and accepts all terms
set forth by Terra Nova. Ask for more details.
